[1:11] Our reviewer of the week, lulu_daisy_1001, said: “This was the first podcast I listened to when I found out I was pregnant. Information was presented in such a fair, balanced, and non-judgmental way. In particular, I LOVED hearing different birth stories - they reinforce what an amazing and positive experience birth should be! I had a beautiful, natural birth on my own terms armed with so much knowledge from this podcast!”
This is exactly what I hope every single mom is able to say at some point. That you had a positive birth experience, whatever that looks like for you, and that the podcast was part of that knowledge and preparation.
A few weeks ago, I felt a little down trying to balance all the roles of being a mom, running a business, homeschooling, being a wife, and just life in general. But I read a few reviews, and it reminded me of why I do this! I have such a great desire to help other women through birth and postpartum. Thank you so much! ๐
As moms we focus a lot on our babies - as we should! And it’s easy to get caught up in what our baby needs so much that we forget some of what we need too. So this is a quick and simple episode all about what mom is going to need at the birth place and once she gets home. This is the perfect episode to have your birth partner listen to so they can help you get prepped for the postpartum period.
[2:47] We talk a lot about preparing for pregnancy, what to do for baby, and we tend to forget about what to prepare for life after baby gets here! So today, we’re going to talk about a checklist of things to keep an eye on or handy. ๐
[4:25] Here are some practical tips and practical things you can have with you to ease into the postpartum period. Grab your pen and paper to write these things down. โ๏ธ
[5:00] I also want us to build our list out together! If you have a recommendation or think we missed something, be sure to let us know on Instagram! We’re going to be posting question boxes for you to give your input, advice, tips, etc! ๐ฑ
[5:45] This is a perfect episode for birth partners to listen to! So keep this one in mind and save it for later! ๐ณ๏ธ The things I mention here are super basic.
[6:27] Let’s start with what you need at your birth place. You’ll need your Birth Bag (checklist linked below!) ๐งณ Don’t forget your Birth Plan! Be sure you have your wallet, ID, and any other documents you need. Other basics: comfy clothing, comfy socks, pajamas, slippers, your own pillow, phone charger, etc.
[8:53] Postpartum items you need at the hospital. #1: Toiletries (body wash, shampoo, lotion, toothbrush/toothpaste, makeup, and hair bands). You’re not staying at a hotel! After you give birth and you’re able to shower, you are able to take a moment to yourself! ๐ฟ
[11:19] Clothing. Okay, some women CAN wear the clothes that they wore postpartum right out of the hospital . . . for the rest of us, plan on bringing the stretchy pants. Bring something for if you end up having a C-section that won’t hit right on your scar. Comfy socks, nursing bra, loose comfy shirt, and a robe are great items to bring as well. ๐งฆ
[13:27] The hospital will have long maxi pads for you and some sexy mesh underwear. If you want a one and done option, you can get Depends! ๐ฉฒ
[14:11] Belly bind! These are awesome for moms! If you don’t have someone to do a Bengkung bind for you, order a velcro bind on Amazon! The Bengkung bind is an extremely customizable, muslin fabric that squeezes your hips in and forces you into an upright position instead of leaning over your baby so often. ๐คฑ๐ผ
[17:00] Prenatal vitamins are so important after birth! Take care of yourself. ๐
[17:38] Bring a yummy drink! ๐ฅคOne of the best things you can do is bring a freshly squeezed orange juice. I enjoy something bubbly like a LaCroix! Something fun to celebrate giving birth!
[18:57] Things to bring for you for breastfeeding: a Boppy, lanolin/nipple cream, and breast pads. The earlier you introduce things like nipple cream, you’ll lower your chances of cracked and sore nipples. ๐ซ
[20:58] Let’s talk about postpartum items you need at home! ๐ก
[21:27] Diaper stations for MOM! This is for when you change your diaper. ๐ Pads, Depends, Peri bottle (DON’T FORGET THIS ONE!), perineal spray (spritz and go!), padsicles, sitz bath items, and extra underwear.
[25:33] Put a copy of the EPDS (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale) on the fridge. Check in with yourself daily so you can evaluate where you are. ๐๐
[26:33] Easy checklist items for you to do every day postpartum. They can stop postpartum depression! โ๏ธ
[28:30] Continue your belly bind.
[28:43] Make sure you have enough comfortable clothing available: nursing bras, comfy pants, loose shirts, etc. ๐
[28:58] Breastfeeding station for Mom: nipple cream, breast pads, breast shields, pillows/Boppy, chair you can lean back in, and food and water! Make sure you have water handy because there is nothing like the breastfeeding thirst! ๐ฎ๐จ
[30:54] Get an extra phone charger! ๐
These are our basic tips for mom postpartum. All things you can prepare right now and can be ready to go when you need them. โ Don’t forget to share with us what your favorite postpartum items are!
